I regularly work with Dekko comics as their freelance comic artist on various jobs. Dekko comics help organisations by turning information or messages into unique bespoke comics. They also create dyslexic friendly comics for key stage students.
The two comics below highlight key information on the interest/power grid and two marketing strategies.
The interest/power grid is a matrix used for categorising stakeholders during a change project to allow them to be effectively managed. Stakeholders are plotted on the grid in relation to the power and interest they have in respect of the project. The grid categorises stakeholders into the following four groups: low interest/low power, low interest/high power, high interest/low power, and high interest/high power. The comics we created uses the concept of “Mama Nature” selling natural hoovers, and how different stakeholders support her business.
Penetration pricing is a marketing strategy used by businesses to attract customers to a new product or service by offering a lower price during its initial offering. The lower price helps a new product or service penetrate the market and attract customers away from competitors. Market penetration pricing relies on the strategy of using low prices initially to make a wide number of customers aware of a new product. This is conveyed by a business owner releasing hundreds of pebbles into the pond to represent cheap products/services penetrating the market, as opposed to another business throwing a few pebbles and unable to penetrate the market, as their product/service price is too high.
Skimming strategy involves companies marketing products at high prices with relatively high margins. A skimming strategy works well for innovative or luxury products where early adopters have low price sensitivity and are willing to pay higher prices. This is conveyed by a business owner skimming a pebble, which represents marketing an innovative/luxury product successfully to high paying customers. Whereas the other business owner tosses a pebble into the pond, highlighting their inefficiency to market to such customers
I was commissioned by Dekko Comics to create an A0 page comic to summarise 100 years of public health in Scotland. The comic features a dying elderly great grandmother who relays the history of public health in Scotland and her experiences as a nurse. The comic was exhibited at The Brye's Community Hub in Glasgow in June 2023. You can find more about the exhibition here.
