I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Dead Nice Studio to design a fun A6 sticker sheet to be given out at conventions and events. (Because let's be honest, business cards are a little boring and most likely get thrown in the bin!)

Initially, I was tasked to come up with a concept for their mascot Scully, a skull with a flower growing out of her head! So, with a lot of daydreaming, I had the idea of Scully being an undead gardener, with a full skeleton body, wearing an apron and carrying a watering can. Soon after, Scully's world began to emerge - she spends her days tending to the graves in a graveyard, making sure the poisonous plants are watered, and the carnivorous plants are well fed.

Dead Nice Studio were delighted with this concept and gave me the creative reins to create a sticker sheet. This sticker sheet would feature 2 large stickers of Scully, and 4 stickers that give context to the world she inhabits. These stickers should also have a touch of humour and relatability for the public to connect with.

I also had the freedom to create a character design for Scully. I had a lot of fun sketching different ideas, and eventually settled on a design that I thought met Dead Nice Studio's vibe and criteria: approachable and dead nice. ;)

Dead Nice Studio were happy with the character design and delightfully suggested a little sidekick for Scully! I started with drawing worms, then eventually landed on a cute chubby caterpillar, who wears a skull mask to be like Scully!

As for the other stickers, I kept with graveyard, garden and skull themes, including a gravestone with the words "RIP unrelated projects", weeping skull shaped berries with the words "berry stressed" and skull faced mushrooms with the words "I put the FUN in disFUNctional!". In addition, I incorporated the words "Dead Nice" on every sticker in small letters, so if someone were to use the stickers, they will always know where they are from.

I kept the background fairly simple and lighthearted, not wanting it to distract too much from the sticker designs. I went with a square grid, and small drawings of skulls, bones and stars, as if Scully doodled them herself. I also made sure to leave space for Dead Nice's logo, a QR code that directs people to their website, as well as some information about company.

This project was such a delight to work on! As someone who loves to create character led illustrations and inject humour into their work, I knew I was perfect for this role. I'm also happy to report Dead Nice Studio were super happy with the results! We're all excited to get these sticker sheets printed - even I want to use the stickers!
